Artist's Description

An intense summer storm crossing inland Maine 45 miles away as seen over Saco Bay from The Gut between Hills Beach and Biddeford Pool, Maine. August 12, 2015, 8:50 PM near the end of photographers blue hour. Just to the left of the lightning strike, the silhouette of the navigational monument on Stage Island can be seen in Wood Island Harbor at the mouth of the Saco River. Congress approved the building of the monument on Stage Island on March 3, 1825, after being petitioned by merchants, ship owners, masters of vessels and inhabitants of Winter Harbor (now Biddeford Pool) on December 1, 1823.
